Saturday 24th March was the rearranged date for the appearance of the Idol Frets Rock Band at Littleborough Cricket Club.
Some 80 people packed the Club for the concert arranged by George Scaife our Provincial Grand Charity Steward, to raise funds for the East Lancs Mark Benevolent Fund. Respected local rock band the Idol Frets played a sizzling set of rock covers during a fantastic evening of classic tunes.
A curry supper was also provided to keep the customers satisfied and a raffle was held to help relieve pockets, purses and wallets.
George’s efforts managed to raise an amazing total of £815 for the evening !
The residents of Canons Close enjoyed their Christmas get together on Tues 12th when they all enjoyed the usual mince pies, Christmas cake and a few glasses of wine and bucks fizz.
We were treated to some singing of carols by Bro Alan Roscoe, and a cheque was presented to Lindsey from Legacy at Rainbow house for £465-00, raised by our monthly raffles etc; In all a jolly good time was had by all !
The residents group met on the 14th March, we were treated to a talk by W. Bro. John Yates ” From Bricks to Boats and back again” about life on a narrow boat, which was very enlightening.
We were treated to WBro.Gordon Rosbotham’s “WORLD FAMOUS” Lemon Drizzle cake (he didn’t even get a piece).The usual tea & coffee was served, and the usual catch up chat ensued.
We welcomed back to the fold Geoff & Edith Bleakley after their enforced absence, and two new members to our little gathering, Mrs Elsie Makin, & John Yates (Jun). As usual Eileen Brown won the raffle!!!
Prior to the home fixture against Halesowen Town on Saturday 21st January, Ashton United welcomed representatives of the East Lancs Mark Benevolent Fund to officially open their refurbished medical room. The Robins were delighted to receive their financial support which paid for a host of medical equipment. Commenting on their donation to Ashton United in the Community (AUITC), Howard Nuttall, Chairman of the East Lancs Mark Benevolent Fund (ELMBF) said, more “ELMBF supporting Ashton United In The Community”…
