David Thompson APGM

In 1970 and at the age of 21 I was married and sadly widowed in 2000. I then remarried in 2005 and divorced in 2020. Since then I have met Joyce with whom I now share my life. I have 2 sons aged 48 and 46 along with two grandsons aged 11 and 8. I retired in 2005 after 22 years as a Sub Postmaster. My hobbies are course fishing, although I have not been for a while, Freemasonry, holidays and listening to music.
At the age of 23, I was initiated into Parnassus Lodge No 7869. In 1979 I was installed in the chair for the first time, in 2000 to commemorate the turn of the century and lastly in 2013 as the oldest member and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lodge. It was in this Lodge where I enjoyed my first experience of being a Lodge secretary which spanned over a 22 year period in two phases. For six years I was the Audenshaw District Secretary. In 1985 I received my first Provincial appointment which was ProvSGD, PProvJGW in 1988, PAGDC in 1994 and finally to PJGD in 2007.

It was in West Lancashire where I first joined the Royal Arch as a member of Architect Chapter No 1375 in 1975. Installed as First Principal in February 1982 and later appointed as Scribe E, again, for seven years.
However, in 1986 I joined King Edward VII Chapter No 3329 in East Lancashire and at the same meeting appointed as Scribe E, and in 1990 installed as First Principal. In 2004 I accepted the offer of being an APGP for Southern area, immediately continuing as the Chairman of the 2015 Craft Festival. However, in May 2012, I was invited to take on the role of the 2nd Provincial Grand Principal, an office I held for 5 years.
In 1990 I was appointed ProvAGScE, ProvDepGScE in 1996, appointed to PAGDC in Supreme Grand Chapter in 1993, PGStB in 2004 and finally to PAGSoj in 2015. Also occupied the First Principals Chairs of The East Lancashire Provincial Grand Officers Chapter No 3747, Tonge Hall Chapter No 8763 and Unanimity Chapter No 4130. Now an Honorary member of the Chapter of Friendship being numbered 44, Verity Chapter No 3949 and Pennine Chapter No 8798.
It was in 1979 when I was advanced into Audenshaw Mark Lodge No 1512. Worshipful Master in 1986 but resigned in 1999. I received my first Mark Provincial appointment in 1990 as a Provincial Steward. I joined the EL Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No 1272, where I was secretary for 4 years and Worshipful Master in 2010. In 1992 promoted to PProvGMO, a Grand Steward in 1995, 2000 to PGJD and finally in 2005 to PGJO. In October 2018 I was delighted to be invested as an APGM to succeed Tony Davies who was a good friend of mine.

In 1998 I took over the responsibilities as the Provincial Grand Secretary of the Mark Province of EL. I was honoured to be invited to become a member of White Stone Lodge No 1080 in 1999, appointed as Secretary in 2007 and Worshipful Master in 2016. In 2001 joined Manchester Engineers Lodge No 1059 occupying the Master’s chair in 2004. During my term as Provincial Secretary I joined Grand Stewards Lodge, TSB No 1383, 990 Mark and RAM all of which I have since resigned from. Furthermore I also became a Founder of Secretarius Lodge No 1932 which again I have resigned from.

In 1988 I was Elevated into Stanley RAM Lodge No 1454, Commander in 1991, receiving my Provincial appointment in 1996 and appointed to RAMGR in 1998. I took on the duties of Treasurer in 2016 an office I still hold.
It was a wonderful opportunity to become the Founding Scribe of Manchester Engineers Lodge of RAM’s [MERAM] in 1998 which has been a very successful Lodge. Currently holding the office of Senior Warden.
It was 1980 when I was perfected into Stanley Rose Croix No 800, invested as MW Sovereign in 1989 and Treasurer in 1991, an office I held for 14 years. I currently hold the rank of 32nd degree.
In 2007 I joined the Donald Maitland Davies Rose Croix Chapter No 1086 and was subsequently appointed as Recorder prior to occupying the chair as MW Sovereign in 2017. The following year I Enthroned Alex McLaren as my successor.
Finally in 2007 I joined Lancastria Council No 154 in the Allied Degree. Worshipful Master in 2015, and in 2017 appointed as District Grand Senior Warden. In 2020 I was appointed PGStB.
